Rituraj Mohanty’s first song in ‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’ serial

Do you know which is the first song of Rituraj Mohanty before making a mark in reality show and Bollywood? He sang three songs for the TV serial ‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’, which was scripted by Javed Akhtar and directed by Baba Azmi.

The serial was aired on DD National. Ripul Sharma had composed the songs. They planned to call Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for this song. But after listening Rituraj’s voice, the makers stayed with his version. Listen Rituraj Mohanty’s first song below.

“Before participating on India’s Raw Star, I’ve recorded a total of 260 songs before the singing reality show. I was making demos and running around like a mad dog to get my voice heard. I was sleeping at the station for days. I met Surendra Bachan, a music director for Punjabi films. He told me never to return home. ‘You will be a star one day,’ he said. I followed his advice and sang a few songs for him. Umar and Danish Shaikh gave me work next on their album, and a few devotional songs followed,” said Rituraj Mohanty in an interview.

“I was born and brought up in Puri. My father is a trained tabla player and singer. He ran away from home when he was 12 years old because wanted to be like Ustad Allah Rakha Khan. He found his guru Ajmer Khan saab there. He returned to India a few years later but couldn’t pursue music because of financial constraints. He dreamt that his son would take up music, so he started giving me lessons in classical singing from the time I was three,” he added.

“Ram Sampath sir is a godfather to me. He’s very down to earth and treats me like a younger brother. Plus, Sona madam (Sampath’s wife Sona Mohapatra) is also from Odisha like me. He has helped me in every way, financially, personally, professionally and with family matters back home in Odisha. I’ve learnt a lot from him. When I went to Ram sir, I was very raw. I got my finesse through him. His passion for music is unequalled,” he concluded.
