App to gather information regarding road accidents in Odisha

The Odisha transport department has decided to develop Road Accident Management Information System (RAMIS), a web-based application to gather information regarding road accidents occurring across the state.

The proposed application will be integrated with a mobile App to enable people to alert the department about accidents and track the police action.

The department plans to integrate RAMIS with Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), an application currently used by the police to upload crime data and share information with police across the state and country.

“We can also utilize RAMIS for data exchange and integration for getting the accurate information regarding accidents. There is scope for developing mobile App corresponding to RAMIS, which will help users to report an accident and track the follow up action,” another transport official said.

Sources said GPS facility will be included with the mobile application to get the exact location of the accident spots and capture essential details related to accidents.

“We have invited expression of interest from reputed IT firms to develop RAMIS. The objective of RAMIS is to ensure timely reporting of all grievous and fatal road accidents, to analyse the causes of accidents and provide appropriate road safety solutions,” state transport commissioner Madhu Sudan Padhi said.
