Skilled in Odisha to train 16500 youths of State in different trades
To create the ‘Skilled in Odisha’ brand name, the project approval committee of State Employment Mission on Monday approved proposals for training of around 16,500 more candidates in different trades during this fiscal.
Earlier the state government decided to invest Rs 1,000 crore for setting up of eight advanced skill development centres, besides upgrading existing institutes in order to train eight lakh youths in three years.
Around 16 trades in basic automotive servicing, mechanic, accounting, integrated course in hair and skin make up, electrician, arc and gas welding, steel and metal works, embroidery, industrial sewing machine operation, print publishing assistant, computer hardware assistant, computer network assistant, digital photography and fashion design technology have been included in this programme.
The committee, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, approved the proposal of Commerce and Transport Department for imparting light motor vehicle (LMV) training to 7,000 youths and heavy motor vehicle (HMV) training to around 2,000 youths under ‘Skilled in Odisha’ programme.
Earlier, the committee had approved HMV training for 800 youths.
Candidates having minimum qualification of Class VIII and in the age group of 18 to 35 years will be eligible for this training. Around Rs 4.85 crore would be invested for the purpose.
Candidates having minimum of one year experience in driving LMVs would be eligible for HMV training course. The duration of the training would be around 240 hours within 30 days.
Around Rs 5.32 crore has been earmarked for this residential training programme.
The committee also approved the training proposal of Directorate of Technical Education and Training for providing skill training to 7,039 candidates in different trades involving an estimated cost of `10.84 crore.
The Chief Secretary directed departments concerned to ensure higher quality of skill training and select trades having demand in national and international markets.
