Odisha: Sports Climbing Complex at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the Sports Climbing Complex at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

This complex will be the first of its kind in India confirming to the norms of International Federation of Sports Climbing. “Sports climbing is going to be a new sports discipline in the 2020 Olympics to be held at Tokyo. So, it will be of immense help for our sports talents,” Patnaik stated in his speech.

The State Government will spend Rs 3.70 crores for the construction of speed wall, lead wall and bouldering as per norms of International Federation of Sports Climbing (IFSC).

The design of the project has been vetted by IIT Bhubaneswar and the Government set a deadline to complete the complex before May 2017, said Patnaik.

Among others, sports and Youth Services Minister Sudam Marandi, MP Prasanna Kumar Patasani, MLA Bijay Kumar Mohanty, MLA Priyadarshi Mishra and Sports and Youth Services secretary Vishal Dev were present.
