A black stone statue of former president APJ Abdul Kalam was unveiled at Chandipur on sea beach, 15 km from Balasore. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patanaik on Friday unveiled it.
“I feel proud to unveil the statue of Bharat Ratna APJ Abdul Kalam who dedicated his life for nation building,” Naveen Patnaik said.
The eight feet high statue of the former president stands near the Integrated Test Range (ITR), which is considered as his ‘theatre of action.’
Dr Kalam had helped set up ITR during his initial years as director of Defence Research Development Laboratory, Hyderabad.

The Kalam statue of black granite has been installed in the Chandipur beach with the initiative of Beach Festival Committee under PPP mode with Rs 11 lakh including about Rs 6 lakh of local MLA JP Dash’s LAD fund. The statue has been built by the local artisans of Balasore.
The height, including pedestal of the statue is 14 feet.
