New number plates in Orissa from today
Odisha Number Plates
The change in vehicle registration code from OR to OD will be effective in Odisha from today. All vehicles to be registered from today (September 1) will have the OD prefix in the number in place of OR.
The Odisha commerce and transport department has directed all the 331 regional transport officers (RTOs) of the state to enforce the new registration code.
The state government had sought the Centre’s permission for change of vehicle numbers just days after the President gave assent to the 96th amendment of the Constitution, changing spelling of Orissa to Odisha in November 2011.
Only vehicles to be purchased after September 1 will be provided with the new registration codes. The department has also allotted 31 new registration symbols to 31 transport areas, which will follow the new registration code “ODâ€.
