Ranganath Mishra former CJI cremated at Swargdwar

A number of dignitaries, including Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, have mourned former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranganath Mishra whose mortal remains were consigned to flames at Swargadwar in Puri on Friday. Misra (86), who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for last few months, died on Thursday night.

Expressing grief over the death, CM Naveen Patnaik said the former CJI’s contribution in the field of jurisprudence and justice would be always remembered.

“His death is an irreplaceable loss to India and Odisha,” the Governor said.

Describing Justice Mishra as a genius, OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik said the former CJI was a multi-faceted personality who had excelled in many fields.

His body was brought to Cuttack and kept at his Tulasipur residence so that people could pay their last respects. Finance Minister Prasanna Acharya, Law Minister Raghunath Mohanty, Agriculture Minister Debi Prasad Mishra and several eminent persons from all walks of life mourned his death.
