Anant Narayan Jena BMC Mayor 2nd time
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik declared Corporator Ananta Narayan Jena’s name as the party’s candidate for the Mayor election in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today.
He is all set to be elected unopposed, ending all speculations about him being replaced by a new party nominee.
This is the second time Jena will be elected for the top job at BMC. Earlier, during 2008-2013 Jena was the Mayor of the corporation in capital city.
The chief minister made the announcement at a press briefing at his residence Naveen Niwas here.
Several people and the corporators had gathered near Naveen Nivas in the morning, waiting eagerly for the announcement.
Besides Jena, three BJD corporators —Sk Nizamuddin, Amaresh Jena and Preetinanda Routray were in the race for the post.
Sources said that while several developmental works in the capital city had taken place during the first tenure of Jena from 2008 to 2013, there are some other works which are underway while other developmental works are lying in initial stage.
Since Jena was involved in all these developmental works in the city, appointing him for the second term would help expedite the pending and incomplete works, sources in the BJD said.
