Bahuda Yatra 2011 - Lord Jagannath Puri Orissa

Bahuda Yatra, the return journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra from Gundicha temple to Sri Jagannath temple was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm in Puri (Orissa) on Monday.

Lakhs of devotees thronged the Grand Road, venue of the Yatra, as the three chariots carrying the deities were pulled from the Gundicha temple to the place outside the main temple.

A series of rituals were performed before the chariots were pulled amid tight security.

Bahuda Yatra is held nine days after the annual Rath Yatra, which marks the annual journey of the three deities from the 12th Century Sri Jagannath temple to Gundicha temple.

Lakhs of devotees were expected to converge in Puri on Tuesday to witness the Suna Besha of the deities atop their respective chariots on Tuesday.

The Bahuda Yatra was also celebrated at many places across the State on Monday with devotees pulling the chariots with great enthusiasm.
