Fruit exhibition at Bhubaneswar
Odisha government is set to organize a three-day fruit exhibition at the Adivasi ground from May 19, where different varieties of fruits would be up on display.
Fruit growers across the state have been informed through the deputy directors of horticulture to take part about the exhibition. Given the fruit growing trend in the state, mainly mangoes, litchis, jack fruits and coconut varieties become a hit at the exhibition.
The horticulture department, which is organizing the fruit fair, is expecting up to 3,500 participants from 30 districts in the exhibition.
About 25 experts from related fields have been invited to evaluate and judge the best fruit.
Last year, the fruit exhibition saw 2,800 participants and about 23 varieties fruits were on display. Last year, 72 varieties of mangoes, six kinds of litchi, six coconut types and two forms of jack fruits were on display.
The fruit exhibition is being organized to boost fruit growing in the state, said horticulture director Sanjeev Chaddha. “In order to create interest among visitors, we will also organize fruit-eating competition. Children below 14 years will take part in it,” said Chaddha.
Last year, Puri bagged the first prize in the exhibition. (Source – Times of India)
