Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will kick start the Local Self-Government Day on August 31 with the inauguration of street lighting at four locations across Bhubaneswar. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is busy finalizing the last minute details for throwing open to public the renovated Bindu Sagar Lake and a brand new BMC market in Unit 2 that day.

The rest of the projects that have been lined up for the Local Self-Government Day are the inauguration of the renovated Chua Lake at Ghatikia, crematorium at Kapilprasad and Badagada, park at Madhusudhan Nagar, laying of foundation stone for meat market construction at Ghatikia and foundation stone for Night Shelter at Bhimpur.

While BMC is on a foundation laying spree, some of the old projects are yet to see light of the day. The civic body on August 31 last year had laid foundation stone for foot over-bridges near Ramadevi College, Master Canteen and Jaydev Vihar. Work has not started for any of them.
