Prakash Mishra new Police DG of Orissa
Prakash Mishra new DGP
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday approved the name of Prakash Mishra as Odisha’s new director general of police (DGP).
The 1977 batch officer, who has been on central deputation since 2010, takes over from Manmohan Praharaj, who is posted as DG, home guards and fire service.
Sources said while the chief minister had become wary of Praharaj for his perceived closeness to Mohapatra, he opted for Mishra since the latter had been insulated from the cut and thrust of state politics since leaving on central deputation in 2010.
Earlier, Naveen had ordered the transfer of two IPS officers, who were apparently close to Mohapatra. While senior cop M. Akshay was posted as director of the state crime records bureau, Jharsuguda superintendent of police Dayal Gangwar was shifted and made commandant of the Second India Reserve Battalion.
