President to visit Odisha in September
President Pranab Mukherjee is slated to visit Odisha in September. He had last visited the state in April to attend the convocation of Utkal University.
He will come on a two-day visit on September 6 to attend the convocation of IIT-Bhubaneswar (IITBBS). Pranab is scheduled to address the convocation on September 7.
Sources said the President would go to Puri and visit the Jagannath temple on the first day of his visit on September 6. He is likely to stay the night at the Raj Bhawan there. The next day, he would take part in the IIT convocation here before heading back to Delhi.
“The President has given his consent to be chief guest at our convocation. We will finalize the list of other dignitaries soon,” IITBBS registrar B K Ray told.
Over 100 students will get their degrees during the convocation. Since IITBBS, which functions from eight different locations, has no convention centre, it is planning to hold its second convocation at the auditorium of Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) near Acharya Vihar.
Among the eight new IITs, IITBBS would be the second IIT to host the President after IIT, Indore. (Source – The Times of India)
