RedBus ticket booking in Odisha now

With RedBus starting its operations in Odisha, people opting for bus travel, like air and railway passengers, can now book tickets online through this popular venture.

Founded by three BITS-Pilani graduates – Phanindra Sama, Charan Padmaraju and Sudhakar Pasupunuri – redBus enables passengers to select seats from the seat layout that is displayed during booking. They can choose from multiple travel operators and make online payment using secure payment gateway.

RedBus.in is the first-of-its-kind online travel portal catering to bus ticket bookings to offer consolidated bus ticket reservation facility. The venture has recently started its operations in Odisha after a successful run in 24 states across the country.

In Odisha, the company is associated with over 20 local bus operators. At present, RedBus facilitates online booking to places like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Balasore, Paradip, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Bhawanipatna, Rourkela, Jeypore, Berhampur, Koraput and Malkangiri.

Chief Marketing Officer of RedBus, LK Gupta, says the concept of online bus ticket booking being relatively new in Odisha, the company would go for aggressive marketing campaigns in days to come. “There is tremendous scope for online booking in Odisha, since road network is much better than train network, road infrastructure is good, Odisha is progressing well and growing very fast, and finally, there is a vibrant and growing community of young professionals and students in the State. Major IT companies have set up shop in Odisha,” he says.

Till date, RedBus has sold about 15,000 tickets and their volume in the State has been growing every month.

RedBus also offers cash on delivery service where customers can either book online or call to book. Besides being a 24×7 online booking facility, the service also caters to home delivery requests.

In February, this year, the venture launched its android app through which people can book bus tickets. Gupta claims that among the travel sites in the country, redBus’ app is the highest downloaded app.
