Sital Sasthi 2012 Celebration from Monday at Sambalpur

More than five thousand artistes will perform in the Sital Sasthi festival at Sambalpur, which will begin from Monday.
Sital Sasthi celebrates Lord Shiv’s marriage to Goddess Parvati in which all the rites of a Hindu marriage are followed. A couple performs the role of the in-laws of Lord Shiv and offers the hand of their daughter Parvati to the Lord.
The groom, Lord Shiv, goes to the house of Parvati in a baraat procession. Thousands of people from across the state gather here to witness the ceremony. Artistes from across the country also come to perform during the festival.
President of Modipara Yatra committee Jagdish Panda said: “Dance groups from Ambikapur, Bihu of Assam, Dashavatar dance, besides traditional dances such as Samparda and Dulduli will be the major attraction of the Sital Sasthi carnival here.â€
