Swine Flu in Orissa – Two Women tested Positive

Swine Flu in Odisha News

The first H1N1 positive case of 2012, which has been detected in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, has put the Health Department on its toes. A 26-year- old woman was diagnosed with swine flu. The woman was earlier admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, before she was referred to the private hospital here. When her condition deteriorated, she was put on ventilator support and the samples were sent for testing to the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) which confirmed the virus. The RMRC has the only bio-security lab for such investigation in Orissa.

Another woman tested positive for swine flu on Sunday taking the number of H1N1 cases to two. Odisha government, meanwhile, has sounded a flu alert. The dreaded disease returned to the state this year, which had killed 32 people in Orissa in 2010.

Last year, no positive case was detected. Since the flu reaches a peak of its infection stage during winter, the Health Department has already alerted the districts.
