Dola Purnima is also known as Vasantotsav or Spring Festival or Basant Utsav. Usually Dola Purnima is celebrated in March. In Orissa, it is celebrated for five days. The idols of Lord Krishna are worshipped from Dashami (10th day of the bright fortnight) to the full moon day. It starts from the tenth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Falguna known as “Fagu Dasami”. Smearing the heads with ‘Abira’, the people take round the idols of Madanamohana in richly decorated palanquins known as “Veemana”.
Dola Purnima 2012 Date is 8th February. It is also birth-day of Sri Chaitanya.
