Bhubaneswar Scientist in Guinness Book of World Records

Bhubaneswar based agricultural scientist Dr Pothula Srinivasa Brahmanand on Sunday concluded a marathon lecture in his bid to enter the Guinness Book of World Records under the “longest speech marathon” category.

On the International Literacy Day, Brahmanand started his 37-hour marathon speech journey from the topic ‘Human Development: Concept’. He then continuously spoke on ‘Human Rights: Present Status’, ‘Ideology of International Leaders’ and ‘Let us be inspired from the lives of national leaders’ and then he took a 15-minute rest break. But sometimes, it was seen that Brahmanand was continuously talking on the subjects without taking breaks which earned some bonus points enabling him to take some more minutes during the break.

Arrangements have been made at the convention centre in KIIT’s Kosi campus here for the 39-year old scientist to begin his long speech, to be heard, as per the Guinness’ rule, by minimum 10 persons in the hall throughout till the end. At 8 am on Saturday, the friends and well wishers of agricultural scientist Dr Pothula Srinivasa Brahmanand were all prepared to listen to the scientist’s marathon speech he started at KIIT campus here on Saturday in a bid to make it to the Guinness Book of World Records (GBWR).

“They offered me two options, either to invite their people to be present during my marathon speech or send the video tape. I preferred the second option because the first one would have cost me a huge money,” Anand, who did his PhD in Agronomy in 2009 from IIT-Kharagpur, said. “I am quite excited and confident to break the present world record as the longest marathon speaker,” he said. Anand is presently working as a senior scientist here at the Directorate of Water Management under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research ( ICAR).
