Eid ul Fitr 2012 in Orissa celebrates today
Eid ul Fitr 2012 Orissa
Eid-ul-fitr will be celebrated with joy, fanfare and religious fervour across Orissa today. After viewing moon on Sunday evening, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday. It is a celebration to mark the end of Ramzan.
Eid, popularly known as Eid-ul-Fitr, is a festival observed by the Muslim community to celebrate the conclusion of the month of fasting. Eid-ul-Fitr literally means ‘festival of breaking the fast’. Like other festivals observed by the Muslim community, this festival symbolizes faith. The festival is celebrated based on an Islamic belief by following the form of social practice.
On the day of Eid, namaz at mosques is followed by the giving of fitr (alms). Family gatherings, fireworks and much feasting round off the festivities. People wear new clothes, houses are decorated, friends and relatives visit each other to exchange greetings. The highlight of banquet tables is the sweet milk-and-vermicelli pudding known as ‘seviyan’- because of which many people refer to Eid ul Fitr as ‘meethi’ or ‘sweet’ Eid.
