Kala Vikash Kendra 60 years celebration

Cuttack Kala Vikash Kendra (KVK) will celebrate 60 years through an extravagant cultural pageant starting from December 20. It is a heritage centre famed for imparting professional training in various art forms for a long time.

Odisha governor M.C. Bhandare will inaugurate the event. Various dance forms such as tribal, folk, Odissi and Kathak will be staged during the event. Other performing arts of the state and country that are on the verge of extinction will also be showcased.

Traditional performing arts including Moghul Tamsa, Ravan Chhaaya and others are expected to be the centre of attraction during the programme that would continue till December 26.

The auditorium is being spruced up with the state government’s assistance. The work of installing new chairs, lighting and renovating the stage would be completed within a couple of days.

A number of programmes would be undertaken to provide quality education to students in classical music and dance at the institute. Former participants, teachers and students of KVK would be felicitated on the occasion.

“We have planned year-long celebrations. Eminent artistes including Odissi dancers Kumkum Mohanty, Ratikant Mohapatra and Rajashree Praharaj, Odissi musician Guru Ramahari Das and others have been invited to perform,” said working president of KVK, Anadi Sahu.

The state culture department has agreed to conduct two cultural progammes every month and organise children’s film festival and related activities here.

“We have plans to develop the KVK and establish two archways at the entrance. Beautification work in and around the building would be completed in subsequent phases,” said general secretary Radhamohan Sahoo. (Source – The Telegraph)
