Kumar Purnima festival is observed by unmarried girls to get a handsome husband. Because, Kumar refers to Kartikeya, the handsome son of lord Shiva. This day also the birthday of god Kartikeya. But there is no puja for the god in this day, instead the Sun and the Moon are worshipped.

Kumar Purnima will be celebrated on 11th September 2011 this year. Thia festival is also known as Gajalaxmi Puja or Chandra Puja. This day is also observed as the birthday of Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth. Girls worship moon by singing a song “Kuanra Punei Janha Lo, Phula Baula Beni”.
