Students union elections on Oct 8
Odisha government on Saturday issued a notification for holding elections for students unions in different Government and non-govt colleges.
According to the notification, the students union elections across the state will be held on October 8. The candidates will file nomination papers on September 30. While the date for withdrawal is October 1, the final list of candidates would be announced on October 5.
The “Why I stand for†meeting will take place on October 7.
This year, multiple electoral activities have been converged into a single day so that the elections can be concluded before the Durga Puja vacation.
It further noted, while polling will be conducted between 8 am and 2 pm on October 8, results will be declared on the same day afternoon. The elected representatives will take oath of office on the following day.
“We expect a peaceful election in colleges across Odisha. College authorities have been empowered to take a call whether to hold elections in case any unpleasant situation arises,” said Badrinarayan Patra, Minister for Higher Education.
Notably, authorities of Utkal University and Ravenshaw University have already postponed the electioneering process following student unrest in the campuses.
