Odisha govt to increase seats in 5 engineering colleges, VSSUT
The Odisha govt decided to increase seats in five government engineering colleges and Vir Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla.
A technical education department official said that at least 1035 seats would be added in the BTech, MTech, MSc and the integrated dual degree courses at various colleges. The distribution of seats will be announced later.
These five engineering colleges are Keonjhar Government College of Engineering, Kalahandi Government Engineering College, College of Engineering and Technology (CET) in Bhubaneswar, Parala Maharaja Engineering College in Gajapati and Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang in Dhenkanal district.
The department has also asked these institutions to improve their respective postgraduate teaching and research activities. To ensure that the government colleges compete with their private counterparts, these college authorities have also been directed to intensify their networking to boost the placement activities.
The government also decided to allow the students to take admission in the additional seats from the current academic session.
While the development has thrilled the students of this admission season, it has, however, not gone down well with the private engineering colleges, which have been struggling to fill up their seats for the past few years.
