The facility will be ready by June 30 or first week of July.
The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has already finished the fibre optic cable laying work along the Grand Road and only connections for routers are to be made to make it user-friendly.
“Puri will have hassle-free internet facility. Devotees won’t have any problem pertaining to mobile calls or accessing internet during the grand festival,” Mishra said.
Discussing about the future of the Wi-Fi connection, he revealed that localites and tourists could avail the facility even after the Rath Yatra, in accordance with the Adarsh Smarak Yojana. Previously, similar facility has been provided by BSNL at Taj Mahal and the Sun Temple at Konark.
Around 25 lakh tourists are expected to throng Puri during the festival. While the state government has been ensuring road connectivity on a war footing, other agencies are working day and night to provide all necessary facilities to the devotees.
Mr Mishra said the BSNL announced free roaming for its pre-paid and post-paid mobile customers from Monday for a period of 365 days. The BSNL customers shall not carry multiple SIMs and handsets during roaming. It would benefit students and people having transferable jobs.
