IIM Odisha may begin admissions next academic year
Admissions to the proposed IIM (Indian Institute of Management) in Odisha may begin as early as next academic year, govt sources said. Common Admission Test (CAT) 2014, scheduled for November 16 and 22, would include option for six new IIMs, including the one in Odisha.
But where the Odisha IIM will be establised is still a mystery. Most probably the place is Berhampur or Rourkela or may be capital Bhubaneswar.
The demand for the establishment of the proposed IIM at Berhampur has gained momentum with several organizations extending support to the cause.
MLA (Berhampur) Ramesh Chandra Chyau Patnaik said he would seek the help of the lawmakers of the district and lead an MLA delegation to meet chief minister Naveen Patnaik to apprise him about the need of the prestigious institute.
The Common Admission Test (CAT), which was originally scheduled to be conducted in November this year in 13 Indian Institute of Management (IIM) institutes in the country, will now include six new IIMs including the one in Odisha.
With as many as 19 IIMs open for admissions, the CAT qualifiers will now have wider options.
The Centre has decided to have at least one IIM in each state to enable the candidates to pursue management studies in their respective states.
The last date for the registration for the CAT 2014 is September 30.
