Odisha govt hikes SC, ST quota in higher education
Odisha government on Wednesday announced an increase in reservation quota for SC and ST students in higher education institutions from 20 to 38.75 per cent.
This will be applicable from 2015-16 academic session, said a release from the Chief Minister’s office.
While only 8 per cent of the seats were earlier reserved for the Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates in educational institutions, now they would avail 16.25 per cent of seats in any college. Similarly, the reservation for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students was enhanced to 22.5 per cent from 12 per cent.
The reservations will be implemented in all courses, including higher secondary, graduation, post-graduation, medical, engineering, technical and other professional courses, the release added.
