Puri to Kolkata volvo bus service by OSRTC from November 1
The State-owned Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) will start operation of volvo bus service between Puri and Kolkata from November 1.
State Commerce & Transport Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi expressed the hope that the bus Service will meet demands of passengers in the premium segment.
Most of the states already have Volvo, Scannia and other modern and comfortable Buses. The State Run OSRTC will initially acquire 12 Buses on lease for the purpose.
The first two Buses will connect Puri with Kolkata through Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. With improvements to roads and four lane Highways, travel time by Buses have now considerably decreased and this is being leveraged around the country to operate Volvo-type of Buses.
From November 1, the service will be made commercially operational and advance tickets can be booked online from today. This will meet demands for improving Bus Service and will be helpful for tourists visiting Puri, the Minister said.
In the first phase, two 45-seater Volvo buses will run on the route from November 1. The premium bus service is called ‘Airavata Gold’. Passengers travelling on Airavata Gold will be given a clean blanket and a water bottle. They will also be provided roadside amenities at midway stops with eateries and clean toilets.
Besides, the OSRTC will shortly operate buses from the Bhubaneswar airport to Cuttack and Puri. A decision to run Scania buses on the route has already been taken by the state carrier, said Majhi.
The 45-seater luxury buses will provide comfortable travel to passengers from the city’s airport to both destinations. The move is aimed at providing more options for travel to the passengers, said the minister, adding that the fare structure would be finalised shortly.
