Puri Jagannath temple to auction clothes donated by devotees

In view of shortage of space in special room of Jagannath temple in Puri, Sri Mandir administration has decided to auction the clothes donated by devotees for deities.

Devotees often donate sarees, dhotis and shawls made from high-quality cotton, silk and tussar to the presiding deities. They usually donate money, gold, silver and garments into a donation box (hundi) installed at Natamandap on Jagannath temple premises.

The move came to vacate the large quantity of clothes used by Lord Jagannath from the store room in view of shortage of space, the temple authorities said.

A four-member committee has been formed to auction the clothes that the devotees are donating in Hundi, informed the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Thursday.

The temple administration would ask the textiles department to ascertain the market prices of the donated garments before auctioning them. The clothes offered by the devotees have been separated from other clothes from the Hundi yesterday.
