Dandapani Mishra passed away
Veteran freedom fighter, poet, journalist, publisher of leading Odia daily Dharitri and local English daily Odisha Post – Dandapani Mishra passed away. He breathed his last after prolonged illness at 10.12 pm on Wednesday at the Bhubaneswar Capital Hospital.
He was 97. Mishra’s wife Savitri Devi had passed away in 2010. His journalist son Kaminikant Mishra and other family members were present by his side while he passes away.
Editor of Dharitri and Odisha Post Tathagat Satpathy, his wife and chief executive Adyasha Satpathy as well as members of the Dharitri family have expressed their deep sense of loss and grief over his sad demise.
His last rites were performed in Swargadwar, Puri today.
Dandapani Mishra was born on 30 March 1917 at Sarankul in Nayagarh disrict. He took an active part in the freedom struggle and established himself as a poet of eminence. He joined a government job in 1948 and took retirement in 1975.
He then joined the Odia daily ‘Dharitri’ as its publisher, a post he held till he breathed his last.
People from different walks of life paid homage to Mishra at his Bhimatangi residence.
