Illegal apartment list in Bhubaneswar – 191 to be demolished
Odisha government may demolish around 191 illegal apartments in Bhubaneswar for violating guidelines, informed Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra in Assembly.
In a reply to a question by BJD MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain, Mahapatra said that 491 cases have been registered against illegally constructed apartments/ buildings under the jurisdiction of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).
Out of these, orders for demolition have been issued in 191 cases, while 63 cases have been dropped. Currently, 237 cases are sub-judice. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has registered 1,444 cases against unauthorised constructions, with 451 cases already resolved and 993 cases are pending, the Minister said.
Mayor Sulochana Das said the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has no problem in razing illegally-constructed apartments in its jurisdiction if the state government is willing to pay compensation for it.
According to Das, there are several housing projects which have come up on agricultural land. In several places, builders have sold property and there is no control over several aspects including encroachment on drainage channels which were earlier part of panchayat.
