Odisha Govt announced Rs 1 crore for Olympic gold winner
Odisha government on Monday announced to give a cash award of Rs 1 crore to the participating Odia sportsperson for winning gold medal in the 2016 Olympic games.
State Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sudam Marndi said – any sportsperson of Odisha who will win a gold medal in any individual event in Rio Olympics would be given a cash award of Rs 1 crore, while silver and bronze medalists would be given Rs 60 lakh and Rs 40 lakh respectively.
He added – Rs 50 lakh will be awarded for winning gold medal in team event, while silver and bronze medalists would be given Rs 30 lakh and Rs 20 lakh respectively. A sportsperson from the state who would participate in any individual event in the Olympic games would be given Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 for participating in team event.
Till now Odia sprinters Dutee Chand and Srabani Nanda made it to the Rio Olympics in the women’s 100m and 200-metre category.
