Sudarsan Pattnaik to get Lord Baden Powell National Award 2017

Sudarsan Pattnaik, renowned sand artist from Odisha, has been selected for the prestigious Lord Baden Powell National Award 2017 for his outstanding service to the humanity.

The Award will be given to him by the President of India on 22nd February, 2017 (World Scouts Day). Expressing happiness after getting the award, Sudarsan said, “The recognition will push me to work for the greater good for the society and serve humanity.”

Introduced in 2007, the objective of this award is to promote brotherhood. Ever since its introduction, Scouts and Guides have been selecting personalities whose contribution have helped uplift the common man’s condition to a higher level, thereby helping the society to grow. The awardees are selected from different fields every year.

Sudarsan Pattnaik was awarded the Padma Shri by Government of India in 2014.

He was born in Puri, Odisha in India. He is the youngest of three brothers in his family. His childhood was full of hardships. Pattnaik taught himself the art of sand sculpture.

He established “The Golden Sand Art Institute” which is first of its nature in India. His sand sculptures include environmental crisis, famous festivals, national integrity and religious tolerance.
