Sevayat Gurukul for children of Jagannath temple servitors in Puri

Bringing reforms in the centuries old Jagannath temple in Puri, the administration decided to set up a Gurukul for the children of servitors in Odisha’s pilgrim city. The students will be provided free education.

Following discussion with the Supreme Court-appointed amicus curiae Gopal Subramanium, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has agreed to execute a proposal on setting up ‘Sevayat Gurukul’ by reducing the number of servitors for making their children highly educated and learned.

As per the decision, the children of the servitors will be enrolled at Gurukul, which will offer courses related to Hindu scriptures in CBSE pattern.

The practical in the subjects will be held at Jagannath temple to make the students expert in conducting rituals of deities smoothly. The process for introducing courses is expected from next year.

Sources close to the development said, the Jagannath temple administration has acquired around 10 acre at Samagara area near Malatipatpur for establishing the Sevayat Gurukul.
