Subhash Chandra Parija became first Odia to head JIPMER
Dr. Subhash Chandra Parija became the first Odia from Odisha to take over as the Director of prestigious Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER).
It is the second most important health instiution in India after All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Dr. Parija has been appointed as director for five years from September 10, 2015 or till he reaches the age of 65 years, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest.

Dr. Subhash Parija had been serving as acting Director from March this year.
Acknowledged as one of the front ranking parasitologists in the world, Prof Parija has been an advisor to Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and World Health Organistaion (WHO).
He has over 30 years of experience as a teacher and researcher as an advisor and visiting faculty at various research institutions in Nepal, Oman, Malayasia and Sri Lanka.
Prof Subhash Chandra Parija has written over 10 books on microbiology, parasitology and immunology. Over 250 of his articles have been published in leading research publications around the world.
The founder of Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology, he has been part of the editorial board of many medical journals, besides being the editor-in-chief of the online journal Tropical Parasitology.
While taking charge as the acting Director, he had said that he would encourage patenting by JIPMER faculty and students, development of diagnostic kits and research in the institute.
Dr. Subhash Chandra Parija is JIPMER’s 12th Director.
