Video: Woman filed a rape case against ex-Odisha MLA

A woman from Berhampur has filed a rape case against the arrested ex-Odisha MLA Ramesh Jena alleging that she had been raped repeatedly by the legislator since 2013.

In 2013, Ramesh Jena and his associate came to my house and Jena raped me. When I told him that I would reveal it, he threatened to eliminate my entire family. Despite this, I approached the police which did not lend an ear to my allegations. I kept mum as I didn’t get any support, she said.

After three-four months of the incident, he (Ramesh Jena) again came to my house with his associate. When I objected to his advances, he showed me video clippings and blackmailed me that he would circulate it. This January also, he came to my house and raped me. He has done this for around 7-8 times, she alleged.

Ganjam SP Ashish Singh said; “A case has been registered against Ramesh Jena for repeatedly raping a widow and filming the act. Complaint has also been lodged against one of his associate. As per the allegations, the victim was being abused for the past two years. We have registered an FIR and a case No 59 has been lodged in this connection. A rape case and a case under section 377 has also been registered. We have assigned an inspector-rank officer for investigation. Given the seriousness of the offence and the fact that the victim was being constantly threatened, we have arranged police security for the victim upon her request.”
