Odisha school dropouts get 9 attempts to clear Matric exam
Now school dropouts in Odisha will get nine attempts in five years to clear Matric exam.
These students can now complete education till Class 10 and get a high school certificate in distance mode through State Institute of Open Schooling (SIOS) that would conduct exam for the first time for 2015-16 academic session.
Those who have completed Class VII and are above 14 years can join SIOS.
In order to provide education to dropout students, the Odisha government has started 115 open schools in 7 seven districts in the first phase.

In the first year, a total of 3,167 students enrolled in 115 centres in seven districts, who will appear in the examination this year. The institute aimed to attract as many as 12,000 dropouts for completion of their school education every year.
In the next academic year 2016-17, the state government has been planning to start open schools at 341 blocks in 30 districts, said School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra.
In order to enroll into these open schools, dropout students should have passed 7th class and age should be below 14 years. The dropout students can obtain matriculation certificate from the open schools by joining and applying for matriculation examinations in five subjects excluding Odia and English languages.
