Anubhav Mohanty elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha

Ruling BJD’s candidate Anubhav Mohanty is elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Odisha today, an official said.

“Anubhav has been declared elected after the deadline for the withdrawal of nomination papers ended at 3 pm Thursday in the absence of any other candidate. There will be no formal election,” the official said.

The two nomination papers filed by Shyam Babu Subudhi and Ganeswar Mishra had been rejected earlier since they did not have the requisite number of proposers. The nominations were rejected on June 10.

The returning officer handed over the certificate of election to Anubhav. Only a single nomination form of Anubhav was received by the Returning Office for the bypoll and he was elected unopposed.

In his first reaction after being declared elected to the Rajya Sabha, Mohanty said he would work for the state and people and uphold the honour of the state.
