Odisha Housing Mission for Urban Poor to provide Houses

The state cabinet approved the proposal to set up the Odisha Housing Mission under which the state government would provide low-cost houses to the people of lower-income groups living in urban slum areas.

In a bid to provide affordable housing for economically weaker section of society in urban areas, the State Government has decided to streamline and expedite implementation of different housing projects.

The govt will implement ‘housing for all’ scheme, a major announcement made by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the 2014 polls.

The meeting presided over by CM Naveen Patnaik who approved the proposals, including a new fisheries policy, restructuring of the Junior Engineer cadre in the Water Resources Dept, amendment to the Biju Patnaik varsity of Technology Act and a new procurement policy of the MSME Dept.

With the unsuccessful attempt to attract South Korean company Posco to set up the largest FDI project in Paradip still rankling, the industrial policy announced State Government’s support for development of world class infrastructure as a strategy to attract investors.

It was decided that the State Government will set up an exclusive Industrial Infrastructure Development Fund (IIDF) with an initial corpus of Rs 100 crore to develop quality infrastructure, including roads, power, water and waste management, Chief Secretary GC Pati told mediapersons.

A proposal was approved to enact the Odisha Inland Fisheries Act considering the Model Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Act of the Agriculture Ministry and other states which have passed such acts.
