The Odisha government decided to organize an international-level coastal festival named ‘Marine Drive Eco-Retreat’ Festival near Konark from December 14, 2019, to January 14, 2020.
With an aim to attract domestic and international tourists, departments concerned have been advised by the Chief Minister to put in their best efforts.
The Marine Drive Eco-Retreat festival, to be held on the Marine Drive, eight km from Konark, would have cultural programs, 3D mapping, food festivals, and adventure and water sports. A luxurious tent cottage with 50 rooms would come up with water, electricity and parking facilities. The spot would be beautified with lighting and other decors.
It is expected that the international-level programme at Marine Drive, the development of Puri town and Shamuka project will help in the development of the tourism sector in Puri and Konark.
The decision to host Marine Drive Eco-Retreat festival was taken at a meeting presided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Lok Seva Bhawan. Present in the meeting were Chief Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy, Development Commissioner Suresh Mahapatra, Tourism Minister Jyotiprakash Panigrahi, Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera, OTDC Chairperson Shreemayee Mishra, Principal Secretaries and Secretaries of various departments.
